THE AUSTRALIAN KANON

"The Ideal We Keep Returning To"

Australia is the nation that keeps trying to become itself.
Just another mate waiting for another mate.

The Rulebook of the Mythology

The Kanon is not a sociology of what Australia is, but a map of the aspirational ghost that has been conjured for 120 years. It captures the values that have been performed, weaponized, and sentimentalized—the mythological substrate of the nation.

The Kanon is an attempt to map what Australia means by asking Australia 3 layers of 7 interrogatives and seeking answers from its influencers throughout its history...
For better and for worse

The Anti-Ideology

The genius of the standard is that it is skeptical of all grand ideologies.

Not Liberty (Too American)
The Fair Go (Correction)
Not Equality (Too French)
Mateship (Solidarity)
Not Class Struggle (Too Marxist)
Have a Go (Pragmatism)

The "Founders" are every generation that re-asserted these core values against the drift of history.

Relative Morality: The Coordinate System

The Kanon does not use a binary "Good vs Evil" scale. Instead, it uses a Vector Field defined by two axes:

  • υ
The Moral Vector (Benefit vs Cost) Who benefits? +1 (Universal Benefit) vs -1 (Self Benefit). Does this concept serve the whole or just the self?
  • ψ
The Will Vector (Proactive vs Suppressive) What is the intent? +1 (Proactive/Create) vs -1 (Suppressive/Prevent). Is the energy flowing or blocking?

* A Concept is judged by its coordinates (υ, ψ). "Good" is typically High Benefit + High Creation (Greater Good). "Evil" is Self-Benefit + Suppression (The Void).
